Hallam and Hampton Park residents can have their say on “unsightly and underutilised” land.

A Liberal Nationals State Government would run an official community survey about the Hallam Drainage site, adjacent to the Hallam Main Drain and Hallam Linear Park.

The Liberal Party candidates for Narre Warren South and Narre Warren North, Susan Serey and Vikki Fitzgerald, said the land was originally designated for a golf course but had gone unused for 50 years.

They said it was degraded and subject to flooding.

A cycling or walking track, sports grounds and parkland have been other options touted for the site, but Ms Serey and Ms Fitzgerald said no project had come to fruition.

“Our region has a lot to be proud of and this survey will help our community become an even better place to live,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

The Journal contacted the State Government for comment but did not receive a response before deadline.
