Fevola gets bitten

FROM the MCG to Edinburgh Reserve, former AFL Footballer Brendan Fevola will strap on the boots and don the Cobras’ tri-colour ahead of a one-off appearance with Sandown Cobras Football Netball Club in May.
The Division-3 SFL club will gain a powerhouse full forward on Saturday 2 May as Fevola, 34, originally from Narre Warren, will play for the Cobras to coincide with the opening of the club’s new Springvale-based home ground facilities.
With a natural country connection between Sandown coach Rick Bean and Yarrawonga – where Fevola currently plays in the Ovens and Murray League – all the stars lined up to get the former Casey Scorpion/Narre Warren dynamo back to the south east.
“We had been talking about the concept of bringing in an ex-AFL footballer for a one off game for a period of time, which has been successfully done at other clubs from a financial point of view,” Sandown Cobras’ general manager Brett Phillips said.
“The opportunity presented itself with our coach Rick having a connection with Yarrawonga, who happen to have a bye on the second of May, so it has fitted in with our first home game of the season, where we will launch our new facilities.
“Brendan is still a big drawcard in footy circles and we look forward to seeing a big crowd get down to Edinburgh Reserve on May 2.
“Our opponent for the day will be our closest neighbour Lyndale and we look forward to a great contest”
34-year-old Fevola played 204 AFL Games (187 for Carlton and 17 for Brisbane) between 1999-2010, kicking 623 goals and earning Carlton’s goalkicking award seven times as well as being a two-time Coleman Medallist and three-time All Australian.
Fevola was named co-coach of Yarrawonga in 2015 after a successful stint as the Ovens and Murray League’s interleague coach.
