Otters relish meet

LAPPING up some recent success at the Metro All Junior Meet, five Oasis Otters have charged into the top junior ranks in Victorian swimming.
Honing their passion at the Dandenong Oasis, the Oasis Otters Swimming Club had one of their best meet results in recent years with five swimmers – Hamed Afshin Azar, Dheeraj Kulkarni, Nitin Mathur and twins Trung and Nam Le – on the podium.
Afshin Azar, 14, won a golden double in the backstroke and breaststroke, also picking up bronze in butterfly. Twelve-year-old Dheeraj Kulkarni finished third in butterfly, while nine-year-old twins Trung and Nam Le finished second and third respectively in breaststroke.
Capping off the centre’s stellar meet 14-year-old Nitin Mathur, excelled in his multi-class freestyle event winning the silver medal.
Two of the Otters’ family – Hamed and his brother Sam will compete at the National Age Championships, at SOPAC in New South Wales, trying to bring back the gold in the 100/200 metre breaststroke from 13-18 April.
