Quake aid on the way to Nepal

DISASTER Aid Australia is delivering shelter and fresh water to earthquake-ravaged Nepal.
The Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills initiative’s chairman Bob Powell said more than 200 tents were on their way from north-west India by road.
“We’ve got another 200 tents going in via the airport. We’ve also been given 400 tents by a government department,” he said.
“Our team of two will be going in in the next few days.
“We are working with a local rotary club in Kathmandu to oversee the distribution reaches the right people.
“Quite often the very big charities are able to service the metropolitan areas.
“Our people go out to the remote areas, where people are often last in the queue.”
Mr Powell said the volunteers would also take water filters in two sizes, which are capable of providing up to 10,000 litres of fresh water.
“There’s plenty of water but it’s contaminated,” he said.
He thanked Andrew Facey from developer Parklea, a former Rotarian who donated $30,000.
“It’s a big help. We’re going to be there for a long time,” Mr Powell said.
“We hope we can bring some relief and joy to the people of Nepal.”
