Neighbours treated after fire rescue attempt

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

TWO well-intentioned neighbours were hospitalised after coming to the rescue of an 87-year-old Endeavour Hills woman whose house was engulfed in flames this morning.
A CFA spokeswoman said the woman had safely escaped her Redhill Court home about 6.20am after she had been alerted by a working smoke alarm to a blaze in her lounge room.
The spokeswoman said two neighbours, not knowing the woman had escaped, broke into the rear of the house.
Four Hallam and Dandenong CFA crews brought the fire under control within 20 minutes, the spokeswoman said.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the two neighbours, who had apparently tackled the fire with garden hoses, were taken in a stable condition to Dandenong Hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
