THE brand new Foundry Gym in the heart of Hallam is a 24-hour gym with a difference.
Manager Mr Waz said the Foundry was not a franchise gym.
“It’s not a commercial gym just interested in money,” he said.
“Our focus is on weight training and we are a no frills warehouse-style gym.
“We are focused on old-school weight training.
“We are not a health club (no treadmills, silly cardio machines or aerobics classes), we are purely a gym.
“We don’t charge ridiculous joining fees.”
The gym, which opened this month, has an old-school, rugged atmosphere, plenty of parking, bicycle racks and is just a few minutes from the train station.
“Our focus is to provide people of the locality with a cheaper alternative to franchise gyms,” he said.
“Most people struggle to pay for protein powder, let alone pay $60 to $90 per month for gym memberships.
“Where they want to weight-train after school or work or seriously build their bodies, we wish to provide them with a private facility to do so at a more reasonable cost.
“When I joined my first gym almost 15 years ago, the membership cost under $40 a month.
“I have never seen any gym cost less than that magical mark since – until now.
“The Foundry Gym was not started to make money it was started out of a passion for bodybuilding and fitness and the need to provide the local community with a low cost option, where they can come and train in a relaxed and judgement free environment.”
Gym open days will be held on Saturdays between 11am and 4pm during which time anyone can come along, try it out and tell the staff what they think.
They can give feedback and then, if they want, they can sign up if they would like to continue training there.
The staff are friendly, enthusiastic about fitness, and more than willing to help and to give anyone a tour of the gym.
People who join up during June will pay no joining fees and if they mention Star News Group they will receive the low rate of $16 per fortnight or a limited once-off $299 per year.
