Fatal crash truck driver faces court

A B-DOUBLE truck driver has faced court over a fatal crash on the Monash Freeway last year.
Richard Mayze has been charged by police investigators from the Major Collisions Unit with driving in a dangerous manner causing death and careless driving in Narre Warren on 5 July 2014.
The former charge is punishable with up to 10 years’ jail.
Mayze briefly appeared on bail in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
An Office of Public Prosecutions lawyer told the court that the OPP wanted Mayze to face an indictable trial in the County Court.
A 41-year-old Narre Warren man driving a Toyota sedan was killed in the crash in the freeway’s eastbound lanes near Ernst Wanke Road about 4.20am.
Mayze was bailed to appear at a committal mention at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 30 July.
