Students cash in to profit

IT WAS back to business for the students from Maranatha Christian School this month.
From Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September the year 10 and 11 students from the school, based in Endeavour Hills, operated their own shopping stalls to celebrate Small Business Week.
In groups of three the Maranatha students were encouraged to plan, launch and manage a real business, first by creating a business idea and then rolling it out during recess and lunchtimes for five days.
Each day the groups sold a variety of foods, with the students using their own capital to fund the project and splitting any profits made among group members.
The Maranatha canteen area was transformed into a small business marketplace for the whole week, with all groups asked to pay a small fee to ‘rent’ the space.
Each group was also required to do their own advertising in the lead-up to the event, as well as being responsible for the design and cost of their uniforms and stall displays.
News photographer ROB CAREW dropped by the school during recess on Friday, while all the high school entrepreneurs were hard at work.
