IT MAY have her name on it but according to OAM recipient Barbara Maggs its just as much partner Tony Jenner’s medal as it is hers.
“I think Tony was the one that deserved it.
“It was his idea in the first place,” Barbara said of the pair’s involvement in the Ulysses Motorcycle Club’s annual toy run.
The great honour was awarded to Barbara on Friday September 11 in front of a big crowd at Government House in Melbourne.
“I think I said thank you when she pinned it on – I was terrified,” Barbara laughed.
Recognised for her efforts after organising the Ulysses Motorcycle Club’s annual toy run with Tony for the past 30 years, Barbara said the medal was a “great honour” and one that signaled the end of the pair’s contribution to the December run.
“I think 30 years is enough – it’s a lot of work,” Barbara explained.
Taking pride of place in the lounge room safely inside its velvet box Barbara said that’s where her once-in-a-lifetime medal will stay put.
“It fell off not long after it was pinned on, I’m too scared I’ll lose it because I’m not going to be around long enough to get another one,” she said.
Proud of each other and their achievements, the Motorcycle Riders Association life-members are looking forward to sitting back and enjoying this year’s toy run from afar.
