A GROUP of Casey students have been running to help others.
Earlier this month students from Maranatha Christian School in Endeavour Hills participated in the Run for Relief around Lysterfield Lake in support of the more than 1 million internally displaced refugees in Burma who are living and hiding in the jungle as a result of ongoing conflicts.
The students had to complete one lap of the 5.5 kilometre Lysterfield Lake circuit and overcame many simulated challenges on the way as part of their Global Awareness week activities.
Students, dressed in camouflage clothing, were allowed to run or walk the track and finished the day with a sausage sizzle and an assembly.
They were also given the opportunity to purchase an official Run for Relief T-shirt with the proceeds of each purchase going towards the Maranatha Mission team’s upcoming trip to Thailand in December, where they will provide survival bags containing toiletries, stationary, food and other basic supplies to people from the local community.
“It is hoped that through this event, students can come to understand and appreciate the blessings we have here in Australia, by focusing their attention on the difficulties and problems that people in countries like Burma face every day,” a Maranatha spokesperson said.
“Maranatha values the support of our community in highlighting this terrible situation and hope that they can raise funds which will go a long way to support the refugees who have been on the run for way too long.”
