Bizarre details revealed in Anzac terror plot

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

IT’S alleged the Hallam teenager charged in relation to a foiled Anzac Day terror plot had discussed painting the Islamic State symbol on a kangaroo, strapping it with explosives and letting it loose on police.
The new information was contained in court documents discussed in the Supreme Court on Thursday 28 January and reported by various media outlets including the ABC.
According to the ABC, 19-year-old Sevdet Besim pleaded not guilty to four charges relating to planning a terrorist act over the phone and internet in the lead-up to Anzac Day last year.
Prosecutors withdrew another charge of conspiring to commit the attack.
Besim allegedly used the internet to search Anzac Day celebrations in Dandenong and Melbourne.
Star News reported in April last year on Besim’s arrest, following a tip-off from British police.
The information led to a 200-strong joint state and federal police counter-terrorism team executing seven search warrants in Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Hallam and Eumemmerring as part of Operation Rising in April.
Mr Besim is due to face a directions hearing on 3 February.
