Missing link in gold chain theft

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

POLICE are searching for a man who ran from an Endeavour Hills jewellery store carrying a $4000 gold chain.
It’s alleged the man entered the store in a shopping centre on the corner of Matthew Flinders Avenue and Heatherton Road on Tuesday 12 January, just after 4.15pm.
After asking to see a number of jewellery pieces the Caucasian man requested to try on a 50cm gold chain.
When the chain was handed over the man with olive skin and blue eyes ran from the store and was last seen in the underground car park.
Investigators have released an image of a man, described as being in his late 20s and unshaven, who they wish to speak to in relation to the theft.
At the time of the theft the man was wearing black track pants, a T-shirt with ‘87’ printed on the back and was carrying a black bum bag over his shoulder.
Police have also revealed the man in question had a distinctive tattoo of what appeared to be an open wound or skin rip on the right side of his neck, as well as several tattoos of skulls on his left forearm.
Police are investigating whether this theft is linked to three other thefts that occurred between 31 December and 11 January at jewellery stores in Karingal and Forest Hill.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
