AN EXTRA court at the Doveton Netball Club is a step closer to being a reality.
After a meeting with Casey councillor Damien Rosario, the club agreed upon plans for a second netball court at its Robinson Reserve facility, estimated to cost $275,000.
On Tuesday 1 March the council agreed to refer the project to the City of Casey’s Five Year Capital Works Program as a way of funding the new court.
With only the one court currently at its Robinson Reserve, Doveton Netball Club president Amanda Dean previously told Star News that her club did not have the capacity to host a final, even if Doveton finished high enough on the ladder to deserve one.
During the season, the team is forced to rent a court up the road to host around five of its teams.
“It comes at quite a big cost to our club and a fairly substantial cost to the footy club overall,” Ms Dean said.
“For the nine games we host during the year, there’s potentially 100 people not coming through the football gate, and each of those families pays roughly $10 at the canteen.
“We just can’t get the numbers through on one court.”
