Youth takes the lead

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

DRIVEN high school students from Casey got the opportunity to tour Parliament House in Canberra recently.
The City of Casey Australia Day Study Tour gave participating Year 11 students the opportunity to see the workings of local, State and Federal government in Australia.
The Federal component of the tour was held over five days and included a three-day visit to Canberra where students met Federal MPs, toured Parliament House, attended Question Time, and met the Prime Minister.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne met with the 2016 City of Casey Australia Day Study Tour students during their visit to Parliament.
“I had a great discussion with a group of 10 of Casey’s future leaders who were chosen by the City of Casey to be members of the Australia Day Study Tour this year,” Mr Byrne said.
“We discussed national security matters, the upcoming Local Youth Summit, mental health issues and the life of being a Federal Parliamentarian.
“These young leaders impressed me with their detailed, thoughtful questions and their concerns for the community.
“Their parents and their community should be proud of them.”
The members of this year’s Casey study tour group include Abdul Mohammed, Anagha Ramachandra, Georgia Coward-Smith, Gul Dasta Ali, Joshua Hoxha, Lachlan Iape, Pooja Jeyadeva, Shakila Husani, Zoya Kovacs, and Zachary Vogrig.
“I wish to congratulate the City of Casey on running this successful program on an annual basis and I look forward to further engagement with the study tour students during the year,” Mr Byrne said.
