Justice plea on murder anniversary

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

TWO years after her brutal murder, Rani Featherston’s family is still searching for answers.
The 34-year-old’s father and brother fronted the media for the first time on Saturday 2 April, two years to the date her body was found with multiple stab wounds lying on Lace Street, Doveton.
On the same day, police released a new photo to the public of a temporary tattoo Rani had emblazoned on her right ankle when she was found.
New CCTV footage shows Ms Feathertson was inside a shop in Robinson Street, Dandenong, on the day before she was murdered, but she was not wearing the temporary tattoo at this point.
It comes after police told reporters they had information that Rani had been heard speaking to a man in nearby Oleander Street, Doveton, on the evening of her death.
Rani’s dad, Kevin Featherston, told the media throng on Saturday that justice would be had.
“We’re going to get them – who did this to her,” he said.
Aaron Featherston, Rani’s brother, said her family had been “broken” by his sister’s murder.
“Since Rani has been taken from us, we cannot stress enough, honestly, how broken we are as a family,” Aaron said.
“It has smashed our life into pieces.”
Police have released more photos of Ms Featherston, while Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen McIntrye urged anyone with information about her murder to come forward.
“We believe the man who was heard to be in company with Rani on the night of her death may be able to assist us with this investigation,” Det Sen Sgt McIntyre said.
“We are also appealing to anyone who has knowledge of where the temporary tattoo may have been obtained, as that may help us to determine Rani’s movements and who she was with in the hours prior to her death.”
Anyone with information about Rani’s death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
