WORK is underway on creating a new Endeavour Hills town square.
Casey mayor Sam Aziz and councillors Rosalie Crestani, Rafal Kaplon and Damien Rosario visited the site on 14 April for a first hand look at the $1.1 million revitalisation of the Endeavour Hills community and shopping hub.
The new town square represents stage one of the Endeavour Hills Community Precinct Masterplan.
Cr Aziz said the project would enhance the area for residents, visitors and businesses.
“The precinct adjoins the Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre and includes the leisure centre, neighbourhood centre, skate park and library, so it is well used,” he said.
“Both short and long-term projects have been identified to improve safety and amenity and enhance civic pride in the area.
“Stage one, now underway, includes development of a vibrant town square with a cafe/kiosk for people to meet and enjoy the new outdoor setting.
“Shared path connections for pedestrians and cyclists to safely walk and ride to and from the precinct will also be constructed.
“These aspects will improve connectivity between the library, leisure centre and neighbourhood centre for pedestrians, cyclists, bus and car users, as well as providing a convenient place to relax and meet.”
Stage one construction began in late 2015 and will be completed in mid-2016.
“Stage two is proposed in the council’s 2016/17 draft budget and reflects the council’s long-term vision for the space. It includes landscaping and accessible terracing, upgrades to the youth and skate precinct, improved pedestrian links and a bicycle path,” Cr Aziz said.
“Community consultation on the skate park and the terracing and landscaping is under way helping to inform design work in anticipation of stage two.
“Once both stages are complete, residents will benefit from an accessible and vibrant precinct, creating improved connectivity between facilities and providing for a greater range of community activities.”
