THE Hallam Football Club will wear white armbands in honour of slain domestic violence campaigner, Karen Belej this weekend.
Her boyfriend is facing a murder charge, after her death in the home they shared in Cardross, southeast of Mildura on Sunday 1 May.
Casey councillor Wayne Smith, a relative of Ms Belej, said he hoped other sporting clubs in the region would jump on board and pay tribute to the 31-year-old.
“My son Kieran has asked his club, the Hallam Hawks, to wear white armbands and friends and family of Karen’s put the call out to Victorian clubs on Facebook,” Cr Smith said.
Ms Belej was an active white ribbon advocate and worked for the Mildura Rural City Council.
A man, 36, has been charged with murder after allegedly admitting to the shooting.
Police took him into custody soon after Mr Belej’s body was found around 7.30pm on Sunday.
