James Cook Primary has added a Gallipoli Oak to its schoolyard.
The Endeavour Hills school held a ceremony to plant the tree on Monday 14 May.
The National Trust of Australia’s Victorian branch launched the Gallipoli Oaks Project in 2013.
It identified the tree as a symbolic link between the Centenary of Anzac, the people of Turkey and Victorian primary school children.
The trust propagated 600 juvenile Gallipoli oaks from acorns to be planted at schools during remembrance ceremonies from 2015 to 2018.
The project included interpretive material to communicate the story of the Gallipoli oaks during World War I, the propagation process and Australia’s enduring relationship with the Turkish people.
