CHRISTMAS was brought to kindergartens throughout Casey last week.
Endeavour Hills, Hallam and Narre Warren were just some of the suburbs which benefited from the Friends of Ermera’s (FOE) Christmas tree delivery program this month.
FOE acting president Jan Trezise predicted the group would have delivered more than 100 trees throughout the municipality by the end of December.
Last year the delivery service raised $3000 for schools in East Timor.
“We’ve also established a lot of links to kindergartens in Timor,” Jan said.
“Five of the Casey kindergartens we delivered trees to actually have links with the Timorese kinders.
“All the money we raise will go to Timor to continue training the teachers.”
The FOE took over the tree delivery reins from Oxfam last year and has been working in small teams to deliver the trees across Casey.
Last week the group delivered trees to Hallam Kindergarten, Hallam Aged Care, James Cook Primary School, Allara Kindergarten, and Fleetwood Kindergarten, among many others.
“It’s all volunteer work and it’s just wonderful when you go into the kindergarten and see the joy of the kids as they see the trees being delivered,” Jan said.
“It also maintains a tradition for people to have nice, fresh trees for Christmas.”
The FOE will also be selling Christmas trees at the Akoonah Park Market on Sunday 14 December. For more information, contact Jan on 0438 393 846.
