Shop smoked out over underage cigarettes

A SMALL business in Endeavour Hills and a convenience store in Hallam have been served with infringement notices for selling cigarettes to minors.
The City of Casey’s health officers have been targeting tobacco retailers across the municipality in breach of the Victorian Tobacco Act.
In addition to the two businesses issued with infringements, a third business has been given an official warning from the council.
Infringement penalties for the sale of tobacco to minors range from $590 for a person and $8856 for a company.
“Council’s environmental health officers lead a range of activities including regular visits and inspections to tobacco retailers, licensed premises and other venues across Casey to ensure compliance with the Act, and play a supportive role in preventing tobacco related illness across the community,” Casey Mayor Mick Morland said.
“Council will continue to educate tobacco retailers throughout Casey so they are aware of their obligations in regards to the sale of tobacco products under the Act.”
