THE Napthine Government has made a $500,000 commitment to Gleneagles Secondary College for a new sports pavilion at the school.
The funding boost, announced on Saturday, was made at the Endeavour Hills school by Education Minister Martin Dixon and Liberal candidate for Narre Warre North Amanda Stapledon.
“The Napthine Government is committed to delivering better facilities for all Victorian students and I’m delighted to be here today to announce the construction of this sports pavilion at Gleneagles Secondary College,” Mr Dixon said on Saturday.
Ms Stapledon, also a Casey councillor, said the new pavilion would complement the school’s new synthetic soccer pitch which is currently being constructed by the City of Casey.
“The soccer pitch and sport pavilion is an excellent example of state and local government working with a local school to deliver a great community resource for local students,” she said.
“The pavilion will be a boost for the local football fans, and capitalise on the increasing popularity of the world game in Victoria.
“The recent large crowds at A-league soccer matches show that soccer is riding a new wave of popularity in Australia, and I am pleased that our local community will be able to share in the benefits of sport, right here in Narre Warren North.”
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan has promised that a Labor government would double the amount of funding to Gleneagles announced by the Liberal Party over the weekend.
“Labor is committed to improving our local school facilities, and that’s why we will provide $1 million to a new soccer pitch and associated facilities at Gleneagles Secondary College,” Mr Donnellan said.
“Labor’s commitment is double that of Denis Napthine and the Liberals, who also promised this last election but failed to deliver for four years in government.”
The Napthine Government formally entered caretaker mode at 6pm on Tuesday, with the state election to take place on Saturday 29 November.
