WORKS to upgrade the pavilion at Betula Reserve are officially underway, with Casey councillor Damien Rosario turning the first sod last week.
The sod was turned during a special ceremony at the Doveton facility on Kidds Road last Wednesday, 26 November, attended by River Gum ward councillor Damien Rosario.
The $750,000 project, funded through the council’s Capital Works Program, will see the Betula Reserve change rooms, social space and storage areas all upgraded.
“This is an exciting project for the Doveton community, particularly for the two clubs that call Betula Park Reserve their home,” Casey Mayor Mick Morland said last week.
The reserve is currently home to two rugby fields, two soccer pitches and the pavilion, used by both the Doveton Steelers Rugby Club and Casey Kings Soccer Club.
“Council is upgrading the pavilion to better cater to the needs of these two growing clubs to ensure they can expand and thrive into the future,” Cr Morland said.
“This important investment is part of council’s commitment to ensuring there are quality sport and leisure opportunities available to Casey residents through supporting local clubs to grow.”
“The project is another example of how council is improving infrastructure across Casey so residents have access to the best facilities close to home.
“I look forward to seeing this project completed and the clubs being able to utilise their revamped facilities.”
