Labor puts plumbing boost in the pipeline

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

LABOR is now committed to supporting a new plumbing facility in Narre Warren.
The ALP, which swept into government last month, promised to help develop the new Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) in Fullard Road as well as a facility in Geelong.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley was joined by PICAC CEO Shayne La Combre and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan to make the promise, which will see the Labor Government work with the Victorian Building Authority to ensure PICAC supports local retrenched automobile manufacturing and supply chain workers.
The new Narre Warren PICAC facility is expected to retain manufacturing workers in sustainable green technologies.
“Rarely does a week go by where I’m not contacted by a manufacturing worker who has lost their job, had their hours cut or are struggling to find work,” Ms Graley said last week.
“We will work with the plumbing industry to support these workers, to ensure they can acquire new skills and get back into the workforce as soon as possible.
“This is amazing news and a fantastic opportunity for our young people and older workers looking to undertake training locally in a state-of-the-art facility for a job for the future.”
PICAC chairman and Plumbing Trades Employees Union secretary Earl Setches said the new Narre Warren centre would see training delivered in “industries of the future” throughout Melbourne.
“PICAC Geelong and Narre Warren will train students in a broad range of plumbing industry related skills which will greatly increase lifetime employability prospects,” Mr Setches said.
