Make your own Mac

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

DOVETON McDonald’s will add another 40 jobs to its staff roster in the coming weeks as the restaurant launches a new food program.
The Doveton eatery, found on the Princes Highway, will be one of the first McDonald’s stores in Australia to unveil the Create Your Taste initiative, which will see staff at the facility boosted from roughly 90 employees to 130.
The new program will allow customers to create their own burgers through using a touch screen and invites them to sit down before their meal is then brought out to them.
Australia is the first country to trial the program.
McDonald’s Doveton operations consultant Duy Tran said the new initiative, which is set to be rolled out nation-wide, fuelled a need for additional workers.
He also said while majority of the new employees will be given part-time contracts, there will still be some full-time position in the offing.
“It will be mostly casual wages, and mainly part-time, but we may have the occasional one or two full-timers,” he said.
“This is creating jobs; it’s a new concept to get more customers coming through.
“The feedback has been absolutely awesome.”
McDonald’s Doveton restaurant manager Clare Roggentin said the new job openings will also provide more people in the Doveton community with the chance to complete their certificate three in retail.
“We actually just signed up a whole lot of new people and this is an opportunity for the people we’re bringing in,” she said.
“They can jump on board and do their cert three in retail. We try and encourage our staff to do that because it means their training is better and the service they give is better as well.
“With the additional staff, that opportunity’s going to be available for them as well.”
McDonald’s Doveton licensee Howard Armitage said he was “proud to provide employment, training and growth opportunities to staff”, while being able to extend those opportunities to an additional “40 locals”.
