DANDENONG Rangers have severed ties with championship winning coach Mark Wright ahead of the 2015/16 WNBL season.
The WNBL team will search for a new coach for the upcoming season after Dandenong Basketball Association’s (DBA) board and management chose to take the program in a different direction.
Wright was informed of the club’s decision on Monday morning by DBA CEO David Graham.
In a press release on Monday, Graham said Wright’s achievements as a coach spoke volumes.
“Mark’s time, effort and energy has been nothing short of incredible for the club over the past five years,” Graham said.
“He led the team to the 2011/12 WNBL National Championship which he and the club are extremely proud of.
“Mark has given everything he could for this team and deserves all the recognition and praise the club and its supporters can bestow upon him.”
Wright coached the Rangers in two stints – firstly from 1998/99 to 2001/02 – before leaving to pursue coaching opportunities in the NBL.
He returned to Stud Road in 2010/11 and had immediate success when the Rangers claimed the 2011/12 WNBL championship over Bulleen.
Dandenong will conduct its search for a new coach over the next couple of weeks, with an announcement likely within the next month.
More to come.
