Arrest after spray bus hijack fails

A MAN wielding a spray bottle filled with detergent highjacked a bus in central Dandenong.
The 24-year-old boarded the vehicle in Clow Street about 6am on Saturday 4 April and approached the 31-year-old driver.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Tony Lavars said the man told the driver he was stealing the bus and demanded he get out, threatening to spray him.
“It was unknown what the bottle contained,” Sen Const Lavars said.
The driver pulled over and left the bus and the highjacker got behind the wheel.
He was unable to disable the brake so he fled the scene.
Police arrested him a short distance away.
Sen Const Lavars said he received hospital treatment for mental health issues before being remanded in custody.
The police Transit Safety Division Crime Investigation Unit is investigating.
There were no passengers on the bus at the time.
