THE Doveton Special Soccer School has again been recognised for its exemplary service to the community this month, with the State Government giving the organisation a grant worth almost $3000.
The soccer school, run by long-time disability advocate Juan Carlos Loyola, was given $2950 in funding as part of the Government’s VicHealth Active Club Grants program, which aims to assist community sport clubs.
The funding can be distributed to the school after 18 May, with a requirement that all the money be spent on items for the club by the end of November.
“The Doveton Special Soccer School is very pleased to have received this grant and it will greatly assist us in providing players with the necessary equipment and safety gear to ensure better enjoyment of the game,” Mr Loyola said.
The grant is a welcome boost to the school which is open for children with intellectual disabilities to participate in, and provides a safe and fun environment.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan also welcomed the announcement.
“This grant will help the Doveton Special Soccer School overcome cost barriers associated with the purchase of sporting equipment and will also allow the school to accommodate more players,” he said.
