HALLAM Community Learning Centre is one of the hidden jewels of Hallam.
Unknown to many members of the community, it is hidden away in Kays Avenue just before the freeway heading towards Doveton.
The centre started as a playgroup in 1984 in a small church hall, became incorporated in 1986 and, after using rooms at the local recreation reserve hall for a number of years, moved to the disused Mapleson Kindergarten building in 1997.
The learning centre tries to offer ‘something for everyone’ with groups for babies and toddlers, three-year-old kinder sessions, courses for people looking for computer skills, English classes for those needing help, exercise classes to help stay fit and healthy, and classes for seniors who want to keep up to date with the digital world that has taken over their lives.
It is a not-for-profit organisation which is managed by a committee made up of interested local residents.
It is always on the lookout for more volunteers so if anyone who has time to spare is encouraged to drop in and have a look around the centre or phone.
Find them at 56 Kays Avenue, Hallam, or phone 9703 1688.
