A driving force for change

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

SENIOR Sergeant Ron Sinclair was last month made the latest recipient of the Juan Carlos Loyola Community Award.
It is the third year the award has been handed out to a local resident who has shown long-term dedication to the community, named after Juan Carlos Loyola and sponsored by Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan.
Carlos has run the Doveton Special Soccer School for the last 20 years and works tirelessly to help the community.
Carlos and Ron have a lot in common.
Senior Sergeant Ron Sinclair has been the president of the Victoria Police Soccer Club (VPSC) since 1995, acting as the driving force for all of its charitable and community contributions
Over the years he has been instrumental in organising initiatives to develop community partnerships, foster positive public relations, raise funds for charitable institutions, and remember the lives and sacrifices of fallen police members.
Ron was pivotal in setting up the Tynan/Eyre Cup, to commemorate the lives of the late constables Stephan Tynan and Damian Eyre, which has raised more than $65,000 for the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
Ron also has a strong partnership with the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, running sausage sizzles and a soccer skills clinic each Good Friday.
VPSC has been recognised as a major partner of this event, raising more than $100,000 for the appeal.
Carlos commended Ron on his selfless contribution to others.
“Ron has been tireless in his efforts in giving back to the community and raising funds for numerous charities in order to support those less fortunate,” he said.
Mr Donnellan also praised Ron, saying “it was an absolute pleasure to recognise and thank his community spirit and hard work”.
