PUBLIC transport is never far away from the Casey Council agenda and this week is no different.
Balla Balla Ward councillor Geoff Ablett plans to raise a notice of motion on Tuesday night calling for the council to write to “all relevant agencies” to improve public transport in Casey, particularly in Clyde.
In the motion, Cr Ablett plans to make specific mention of the Clyde area, which is “growing rapidly by population”.
But the motion also makes mention of public transport Casey-wide, where Cr Ablett has urged council officer to “continue their great efforts in improving public transport advocacy and programs”.
Cr Ablett’s motion comes after it was reported last month that frozen Federal Government funds may soon be poured into the Monash Freeway upgrade.
It’s understood the Turnbull Government has agreed to unlock the $1.5 billion East West Link money allocated to the State Government, provided it will be used on valuable road projects such as the upgrade of the Monash Freeway.
Roads Minister and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said he welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement, while La Trobe MP Jason Wood said he has long been campaigning for the duplication of the busy freeway, describing it as a “car park” filled with hundreds of frustrated commuters travelling to and from the south-east each day.
