Cr Smith holds Labor to its promise

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

COUNCILLOR Wayne Smith will call for a meeting with the Andrews Government after Labor last year promised to build a new technical school in Casey.
Cr Smith plans to raise a motion at Tuesday’s council meeting calling for representatives from the Education Department to brief councillors on plans for the new Casey tech school.
In the lead-up to the State Election, Labor promised $125 million for 10 new tech schools in Victoria, with one set to be built in Casey at a cost of about $12.5 million.
At the time Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said students at the new tech school would also maintain enrolment at their local secondary schools.
“We are now facing a youth unemployment crisis, our young people are struggling just to get a start in life and without our help we could find ourselves with a lost generation,” she said.
“That’s why Labor will reinvest in our schools, we will provide our young people with the skills and opportunities they need to get ahead in life.”
