Sweet winter treats

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

Diets were swept aside for serious sweet-toothed sampling at Winter Treats in Wilson Botanic Park, Berwick, on 2 July.
More than 24 speciality stalls gave away free desserts and snacks under a big marquee as part of the feast.
It had been billed as the sweetest event this season and certainly would have more than matched the humble election-day sausages being served around booths the same day.
Among the decadent offerings were cupcakes from Cranbourne-based Kate Sargent and her home-kitchen business Sargent Sweetness.
There was a touch of Christmas in July, with Christmas cake slices from the Lioness Club of Berwick, and a mix of sweet and savoury treats from other stall holders.
There were also demonstrations in making bread and chocolate, and decorating cookies, and additional goods that could be bought and taken away.
Escapees and Bats theatre companies, as well as musicians, were among the entertainers.
