Crafted with care

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

BUDDING playwrights at Gleneagles Secondary College have conceived a madcap comedy from scratch about the unexpected turns of a night of babysitting.
Students from Years 8 to 11 wrote the script for Babysitter Wanted about babysitter Chase, who is somehow convinced to go find a lost friend in the city and take the baby-sat children with him.
Like the children leading the baby-sitters, so too the students were allowed to take the reins of the production in the spirit of “inclusive, student-led learning”.
For the whole of term one, the school’s young bards workshopped their ideas, characters and storylines.
They then chose songs as well as creating choreography and band arrangements for the show.
The play stars Hannah Halton, Xenia Sanut, Josh Di Salvatore, Rhianne McMahon, Kealy Fox and Tome Correia.
Gleneagles’ performing arts staff Kirsty Wilson, Ashlea Thompson, Sarah Reynolds and Kirsty Letts gave assistance.
Babysitter Wanted will be held at Hallam Senior College, Frawley Road Hallam from 7.30pm on 30 August, 31 August and 1 September. Tickets are $10 and bookings can be made on 9708 1319.
