An Endeavour Hills man has pleaded guilty to threatening to strangle his mother and shoot and punch his father.
The 34-year-old man had entered the parents’ home in breach of an intervention order before unleashing his threats, Dandenong Magistrates’ Court heard on 21 November.
The man threatened to strangle his mother with his bare hands and with her headscarf if she didn’t provide him with cash
He grabbed his father’s wrist and told him that he would shoot the parents. The accused told his father he could kill him with one punch.
His parents fled their home in fear, police alleged.
The accused had been convicted at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in September 2015 for assault, threats to kill and recklessly causing injury to his parents.
A defence lawyer told the court that a CREDIT bail program or similar supports would be beneficial for the accused, whose behaviour was exacerbated by drug use.
A recent CREDIT bail report suggested the man may have an undiagnosed intellectual disability, the lawyer said.
Magistrate Jack Vandersteen said he would defer sentence and put the accused on a justice plan to allow him to engage in drug and other treatments.
A two-year full intervention order was issued to protect the accused’s father and a limited-contact order to protect the mother.
The man was put on CREDIT bail to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 21 December.
