EXTRA security has been added to the permitter fence around Endeavour Hills Police Station this week.
The measures come after protective screens were finally installed at the station’s front desk in November following the fatal shooting of Numan Haider in 2014.
Senior Sergeant Alan Dew said the additions were upright flattened aluminium tubes that added an extra 15 centimetres to the height of the fence.
“They’re just an extra deterrent for people wanting to gain unlawful entry,” he said.
“No one has tried to climb the fence but it’s just another security message.”
Late last year Holt MP Anthony Byrne, also the deputy chairman of Parliament’s Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security, visited the station to speak with Senior Sergeant Phil Byrne about the new security additions.
Haider was fatally shot on 23 September 2014 as he allegedly stabbed two police officers outside the station.
The incident is being investigated by the State Coroner.
