Special school to rise at derelict site

Labor has promised a “world-class” special school on the site of the former Endeavour Hills Secondary College.

The Endeavour Hills Special School has been pledged to be fully funded, built and opened in 2022.

The State Government had committed planning funding for the project in the 2018-19 budget.

The future of the derelict site at Amalfi Drive had been the subject of a community campaign since the former school was shut down by the previous Government.

Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said the school would service a growing demand in the South East.

“We are committed to making sure that every child is given the appropriate support they need to achieve and succeed – not only at school but in their lives beyond.

“Since I was elected, I have often been asked about our plans for the old Endeavour Hills Secondary site, which has been collecting rubbish for too long.”

Ms Williams said it was “fitting” to transform the site into a “state-of-the-art” school for children with additional needs.

The Liberal-Nationals Coalition has pledged $1.3 million towards a centre for VCE students at the suburb’s Gleneagles College campus.
